Hamel is a family-owned premium, limited-production winery focused primarily on producing superior, terroir-driven Cabernet Sauvignon blends from its estate vineyards in the Sonoma Valley and Moon Mountain District AVAs. Hamel devotes meticulous attention to the vineyards and winemaking which serves as the backbone of Hamel’s direct-to-consumer program offerings.
The Winery Accountant role is responsible for supporting the CFO by recording the day-to-day financial transactions as they relate to company purchases, sales, receipts and payments and to help ensure timely general ledger closes by assisting the CFO as needed. This role also supports the wholesale team by processing incoming orders, reviewing and reporting depletion sales data and maintaining current and accurate inventory levels for the team to rely upon.
Accounting Responsibilities
· Receive, code and enter vendor invoices.
· Generate semi-monthly check run approval through Bill.com.
· Reconcile vendor statements, research and correct discrepancies.
· Receive vendor invoice approvals, as needed.
· Process wholesaler bill-backs.
· Create and record daily sales receipts from POS & reservation systems to accounting system.
· Generate and submit invoices to wholesale distributors and customers.
· Manage accounts receivable invoicing and collection.
· Record cash receipts and make bank deposits.
· Maintain the petty cash fund.
· Perform monthly credit card statement reconciliation.
· Complete monthly sub-ledger reconciliations.
· Assist with other general ledger duties as assigned to ensure timely monthly and year-end close.
· Develop and maintain Excel spreadsheets for accounting functions.
· Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.
Wholesale Sales Support
· Review purchase orders for accuracy of item vintage, item availability, pricing, payment terms and shipping instructions.
· Confirm orders with distributors and fulfilment warehouse.
· Input orders from retailers and distributors into the sales system.
· Process retailer and distributor sample requests.
· Regularly compare inventory levels and sales trends to ensure adequate stock availability and timely vintage transitions.
· Compile and review monthly depletion reports to provide support to the Wholesale team.
· Enter and maintain new distributor and new product set ups in the transaction system.
· Onsite customer service contact for retailer and distributor customers.
· Other tasks as assigned.
EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business-related field, or equivalent work experience.
· Minimum of two years’ previous accounting experience.
· Experience with QuickBooks accounting software, Excel spreadsheets and Bill.com accounts payable platform.
· Familiarity in ERP environment (NetSuite preferred)
· Wine/alcohol beverage industry experience desirable.
