Job Purpose
The Winemaker is responsible for managing day to day winemaking activities to ensure the production of high-quality wines. This role encompasses oversight of key processes including grape harvesting, fermentation, aging, blending, and bottling. The Winemaker will work closely with the cellar and laboratory teams to maintain consistency and quality across all wine batches, offering technical expertise in grape and wine management to meet production goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversee the entire the entire winemaking process, from grape harvest to final bottling, ensuring quality at every stage.
- Manage grape receiving, crushing, pressing, and fermentation monitoring processes.
- Maintain and analyze daily fermentation logs, including tracking tank temperatures and other critical metrics.
- Make informed decisions on blending and aging to achieve desired wine profiles and quality standards.
- Collaborate with the Director of Winemaking and Vineyard teams to align crop quality and yield with production goals.
- Conduct and contribute to wine tasting and blending evaluations to support product style and quality development.
- Partner with Marketing and Hospitality teams to support educational events and customer engagement initiatives.
- Document winemaking processes, analyses, and observations to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Oversee inventory and coordinate shipments, ensuring accurate and timely dispatch of products.
- Manage client and customer crush programs, adhering to established wine making protocols and client specifications.
- Lead and mentor seasonal and permanent cellar staff, fostering a collaborative and efficient work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Enology, Fermentation Science, Food Science or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of winery production experience with expertise in wine production, chemistry, lab analysis, viticulture, and grape varietals.
- Comprehensive knowledge of cellar, lab, bottling and vineyard operations.
- Proficient organizational, communication, and computer skills.
- Familiarity with TTB and state regulations governing alcoholic beverage production, distribution, and packaging.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to foster trust, collaboration, and respect in a team environment.
- Analytical thinker with proven problem-solving and resolution management abilities.
- Detail oriented with the capacity to maintain a big-picture perspective.
- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with winemaking database systems is preferred.
- Strong math skills, including proficiency in ratios, percentages, fractions, and algebra.
- Skilled in writing business correspondence, reports, and procedural documentation.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Ability to work indoors and outdoors, in an office and with machinery, at ground level or elevated on cat-walk spaces with exposure to related equipment varying noise levels. Must be available to support production teams when needed, including early morning or evening or weekend work as needed.
Must be able to lift and carry weights of up to 50 pounds at varying frequencies. Possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure. Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, climbing stairs, carrying, and twisting in a production environment. Requires sitting, operating a computer keyboard, telephone, and other office equipment, reading, talking, and hearing for extended periods of time. Must be able to taste alcoholic beverages and detect, distinguish, and determine smells.

Pay: $90,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
