The Role
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller is responsible for the day-to-day execution and accuracy of Ponzi’s accounting function. This hands-on role owns the general ledger, month-end close, reconciliations, payroll, and compliance, ensuring financial records are complete, timely, and correct. The Controller works closely with leadership and operations to maintain strong controls, resolve issues as they arise, and deliver reliable financial information that supports the ongoing running of the day-to-day business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting
- Lead monthly and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completeness
- Prepare monthly financial reporting and reporting packages for Groupe Bollinger
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaid amortization, and reclassifications
- Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure GAAP compliance
- Assist CFO with yearly budgeting process
Accounting Operations
- Perform daily accounting operations, including AR, AP, reconciliations, and invoice coding
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
- Manage cash position and administer weekly check runs
- Drive improvements in accounting processes, systems, and SOPs
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls and documentation
Sales & Revenue Accounting
- Weekly entry of tasting room, wine club, and online sales from Commerce7 into QuickBooks Online
- Weekly entry of national sales data into QuickBooks Online
- Manage customer invoicing, payment posting, and AR follow-up
- Support pricing accuracy and revenue integrity across channels
Payroll & HR Administration
- Manage Paycom as the system of record for HR and payroll
- Process bi-weekly payroll, including timecard review and commission files
- Maintain PTO and sick time balances
- Manage employee records and support onboarding/offboarding
- Oversee employee tax filings and 401(k) administration
Compliance & Regulatory
- Support tax preparation, audits, and external advisors
- Prepare TTB quarterly compliance
- Oversee monthly sales and excise compliance
- Manage export compliance, including pricing, paperwork, logistics coordination, and invoicing
- Ensure compliance across winery, hospitality, and sales operations
Executive & Operational Support
- Provide administrative and travel support to the CEO as needed
- Partner cross-functionally with operations, hospitality, and sales teams to support decision-making
- Serve as a reliable, discreet resource for leadership on financial and operational matters
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent professional experience
- Demonstrated wine industry experience with a strong understanding of winery operations
- Proven expertise in general ledger management, payroll, financial reporting, and compliance
- Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices
- Poised, self-directed professional with sound judgment and executive presence

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
