Tasting Room Manager:
Obelisco Estate Winery, Woodinville, WA
Summary: The Tasting Room Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the winery's tasting room, ensuring an exceptional guest experience that builds brand loyalty and drives direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales. The ideal candidate is a passionate, hands-on leader with strong hospitality, management, and sales skills who can represent the winery's brand and story to visitors from around the world.
Responsibilities
Leadership and staff management:
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of tasting room associates and wine educators.
- Lead by example, fostering a positive, professional, and high-performing team culture focused on hospitality and sales.
- Create and manage staff schedules to ensure proper coverage during peak seasons and events.
- Conduct regular staff meetings to provide ongoing training on wine knowledge, sales techniques, and operational updates.
- Handle performance reviews, coaching, and disciplinary actions as needed.
Guest experience and sales:
- Oversee all day-to-day tasting room operations, ensuring a clean, organized, and inviting environment.
- Develop and execute engaging tasting experiences and programs that educate guests and drive sales.
- Actively engage with guests on the tasting room floor, providing memorable and authentic brand interactions.
- Develop and implement strategies to increase wine club sign-ups and member retention.
- Monitor sales performance, conversion rates, and other key metrics, and report results to upper management.
- Promptly and professionally resolve guest complaints and issues.
Operational and administrative duties:
- Manage wine, merchandise, and supply inventories, coordinating with production and marketing teams as needed.
- Oversee all point-of-sale (POS) systems, cash handling, and daily sales reconciliation.
- Collaborate with marketing to ensure all pricing, menus, and collateral are accurate and up-to-date.
- Support the planning, setup, and execution of winery events, both on-site and off-site.
- Prepare and maintain regular reports on financial performance and tasting room operations.
Compliance and safety:
- Ensure strict adherence to all Washington State liquor laws and other regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and enforce health and safety standards for the tasting room, employees, and guests.
- Ensure all staff possess current Washington State MAST 12 and Food Handler's permits.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of management experience in hospitality, wine, or a high-end retail environment.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency in driving sales and managing budgets.
- Extensive knowledge of wine, with a passion for Washington state wines.
- Proficiency with Orderport POS, inventory, and reservation systems.
- Strong organizational skills and an excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Salary
- $60,000 - $70,000 plus tips.
