Position Summary:
This role reports directly to the Winemaker and works under the supervision of the Enologist and Assistant Winemaker, collaborating with other production departments. The position requires a strong foundation in analytical practices, including quality assurance and control. Key responsibilities include sampling, standardization, instrument calibration, bench-top trials, cleaning, and additional tasks as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Perform quality control tasks, identifying and reporting issues as necessary.
- Monitor and maintain the lab analysis schedule, including tracking active work orders, standard analyses, special requests, and follow-up items.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment; report any issues to the lab team and assist in coordinating repairs, maintenance, or replacements as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment. Prepare chemicals and solutions safely and neatly for lab use, adhering to start- and end-of-day routines.
- Collaborate on lab scheduling by utilizing active work orders and the production calendar.
- Retrieve samples requested by winemakers for sensory and analytical review.
- Demonstrate intermediate computer skills, including email, spreadsheets, basic database management, and familiarity with standard winemaking software programs. Proficiency or willingness to learn Microsoft Office Suite, Google Drive apps, and InnoVint is required.
- Ensure timely and accurate record-keeping using Workforce Now (ADP).

- Comply with all company safety policies, practices, and procedures. Participate in safety training and report all unsafe conditions or work practices.
- Participate in team efforts and perform additional duties as needed.
Necessary Skills:
Language: Ability to speak and understand basic English required for all positions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as memos, instructions, policies and manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to present information effectively to groups of customers and/or employees, and participate in one-on-one and small group situations.
Math:
- Ability calculate items such as percentages, areas, circumference, and volume. Ability to understand fractions, ratios, and proportions. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Logic:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to a variety of tasks and duties. Ability to adapt to minor changes in routine, solve basic problems, and work with moderate supervision.
Computer:
- Possess intermediate computer skills which can include e-mail, internet, word processing, spreadsheet, basic database activity.
Education, Experience, Certificates, Licenses:
- Academic and/or professional laboratory experience is required. Wine-specific analytical experience is ideal. Those who are detail-oriented, analytically-minded, and flexible to changing priorities will be best suited to the position.
- Current, valid Driver’s License, insurable driving record, and proof of current automobile insurance required.
Physical Requirements:
- Moderate physical activity performing occasional somewhat strenuous activities including standing, walking, climbing, reaching, and carrying. Manual dexterity sufficient to reach, handle items, and work with the fingers. Requires lifting and moving objects up to 50 lbs. in weight. Clear vision (close and distant) and ability to adjust focus. Hearing adequate for telephone, office, and group conversation.
Work Environment:
- Indoor and outdoor environment with variable lighting, temperature and/or ventilation. Areas may or may not be heated, air-conditioned, or shaded. Outdoor periods frequently required in changing weather conditions. Exposure to fumes and/or a variety of chemicals. Moderate to high noise levels typical of machinery, power tools, vehicles, and other equipment. (Note: PPE provided for all workers.)
Schedule and Travel Requirements:
- Variable schedule: primarily a set schedule but may require weekends, periodic evenings, and/or periodic or seasonal overtime.
- Position does not require overnight travel.
