Cellar Technician

About us. Wide River Winery is the 10th largest winery in Iowa, producing and selling about 15,000 gallons per year. We have three tasting rooms and a good sized wholesale business. We aim to produce excellent wine and customer service. We grow 17 acres of grapes including, Frontenac Blanc, St. Pepin, Itasca, Petite Pearl, Verona and Marquette. We bring in vitis vinifera grapes and purchase regionally from other growers.
This cellar worker would execute all grape, juice and wine movements from crush to the bottle. Duties to include topping, crush equipment and press operation, barrel work, tank racking, wine transfers, chemical additions, sanitation, fining, filtering, forklift operation and bottling.
* Clean and sanitize tanks and process equipment.
* Operates forklift as required.
* Performs barrel work, both hand stacking and machine stacking (barrel racks).
* Executes yeast and chemical additions.
* Completes cellar work orders and other paperwork in a thorough and timely manner.
* Maintains a safe, clean, and well-organized work area.
* Furnishes lab with wine/juice samples for analysis and perform analysis after training.
* Willing to work overtime when necessary.
* Provide supervision to temporary workers.
* Blending with supervision
* Collaborate on yeast choice, harvest decisions.
* Mechanical ability very helpful.
About you
* High school diploma or equivalency and previous cellar experience helpful.
* Enology and/or viticultural studies appreciated.
* Proficiency in mathematics. Ability to perform calculations with accuracy.
* Ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions.
* Ability to write simple correspondence neatly and clearly.
* Must have a working knowledge of cellar winemaking requirements.
* Ability to work overtime and evenings as required, especially during harvest season.
* Good communication skills, positive attitude, and ability to excel as a member of a small winery team are essential.
* Must be able to work under minimal supervision.
* Reliable transportation and valid driver's license required.
* Ability to contribute to a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a courteous and professional manner.
* Mechanical ability.
