Rosenblum Cellars, located on the beautiful waterfront at Jack London Square in Oakland, California, is a vibrant, energetic “family” sharing exceptional wines with both new and loyal customers. Founded nearly 40 years ago by Kent Rosenblum, known as the “King of Zinfandel,” Rosenblum Cellars is an iconic winery with a passionate following.
The General Manager leads the Rosenblum Cellars location, overseeing all aspects of operations, staff, guest experience, and financial performance while maintaining the heritage, premium brand, and hospitality standards that define Rosenblum.
Job Statement
The General Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for driving overall business performance, operational excellence, and team leadership at the Rosenblum Cellars location. This position combines strategic planning, P&L accountability, and operational oversight with a focus on delivering a world-class guest experience. The General Manager ensures the site runs efficiently, meets financial goals, develops staff, and aligns operations with Rosenblum’s broader marketing and DTC objectives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Business & Team Leadership
- Lead and manage all cellar and tasting room operations to achieve profitability, growth, and brand excellence.
- Recruit, hire, train, and mentor employees to build a high-performing team.
- Develop and implement staffing strategies, schedules, and training programs to meet business needs.
- Counsel and coach employees to maintain high performance standards and a positive work environment.
- Establish and reinforce a culture that reflects Rosenblum’s values and brand personality.
Guest Experience & Brand Standards
- Ensure every visitor, wine club member, and VIP experience exceptional service and engagement.
- Oversee tasting room service, wine education, events, and VIP experiences.
- Maintain a welcoming, fun, and premium atmosphere that represents Rosenblum’s heritage.
- Partner with marketing and DTC teams to drive wine club growth, member retention, and event participation.
Operational & Financial Management
- Oversee daily operations, including POS, reservations, inventory, and workflow efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with safety, sanitation, and responsible alcohol service regulations.
- Develop and manage the annual site budget, track P&L, and implement strategies to control costs and maximize revenue.
- Utilize guest feedback, sales metrics, and operational data to improve performance and offerings.
Strategic Planning
- Develop and execute operational plans aligned with Rosenblum’s long-term objectives.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives, including marketing, events, and collaborations, to support business growth.
- Continuously assess site operations and implement improvements for efficiency and guest satisfaction.
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong leadership, team-building, and coaching skills.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, guest-facing environment and maintain composure under pressure.
- Proficiency with POS systems, reservation platforms (OpenTable preferred), and standard business applications.
Education & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of hospitality, winery, or premium guest-facing business management experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role.
- Experience managing P&L, budgets, and operational performance in a high-volume or premium environment.
- Wine knowledge required; WSET Level 2 or equivalent preferred.
- Must be over 21 and hold or obtain Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Work Environment
- Primarily indoor; limited noise.
- Occasional work in production areas requiring PPE (side shield safety glasses, head/ear protection, high-visibility vest, and proper footwear).
