Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and personable Wine Steward to join our retail team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, a strong understanding of wine products, and the ability to assist customers with their selections. This role involves promoting wine sales, conducting product demos, and maintaining an organized and appealing wine section. Bilingual abilities and prior supervisory experience are a plus, as the Wine Steward will also support team training and oversee daily operations within the wine department.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers in selecting wines by providing detailed product knowledge and recommendations
- Conduct product demonstrations to educate customers about different wines and pairing options
- Upsell products to enhance customer experience and increase sales
- Maintain merchandising standards by organizing displays, stocking shelves, and ensuring proper signage
- Operate POS systems accurately for transactions including cash handling and retail math calculations
- Manage inventory levels by stocking shelves and coordinating with suppliers as needed
- Provide exceptional customer service through friendly communication, phone etiquette, and attentive assistance
- Support supervising staff in daily tasks, ensuring smooth department operations
- Perform cashier duties including processing sales efficiently and accurately
Requirements
- Previous retail sales experience, preferably in grocery or specialty food stores
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage customers effectively
- Knowledge of wine products, wine pairing, and related merchandising techniques
- Experience with POS systems, cashiering, and retail math calculations
- Ability to upsell products while maintaining excellent customer service standards
- Bilingual skills are highly desirable to assist a diverse customer base
- Supervising experience is a plus for supporting team leadership responsibilities
- Familiarity with grocery store operations, stock management, and product demos
- Professional phone etiquette when interacting with customers over the phone or in person

This is a full time position for the oldest winery in South Carolina. It's not a job, it's the adventure of a lifetime. Thursday through Monday. Weekends and holidays are required. Benefits: water taxi to and from the island. An hour paid for the ommute per shift. You make tips (you will make bank).
