Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Winemaker, this position is responsible for managing all cellar operations, including winery harvest activities, barrel program and bottling. The Cellar Manager will be responsible for regular and on-going compliance, safety training, and will manage all cellar personnel and logistic activities while meeting and exceeding quality standards.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Must be organizationally agile balancing the needs of multiple shareholders and winemaking styles.
- Directs cellar staff in the quality processing of fruit during harvest, from receipt of grapes through barreling down of juice and wine.
- Responsible for staffing to promote a culture of inclusion, hiring, promotion, employee development, performance evaluations, counseling and disciplining of cellar personnel.
- Responsible for 5S program, Cellar Safety Program, and adherence to all company safety standards. Ensures a safe working environment and that all personnel are safety trained and conscientious.
- Coordinate with other departments for production scheduling. Reports any deviation from planned production to Winemaker.
- Ensures all cellar personnel execute work orders in a timely and accurate manner.
- Works closely with Lab to ensure quality winemaking standards by coordinating gathering of juice, wine, SO2 samples. Also, coordinates barrel activities with lab to support barrel fermentation and monthly topping.
- Responsible for the maintenance of wines in the Tank Room and Barrel Cellar, complying with winemaking directions.
- Manages empty barrel care program to ensure barrel health.
- Assures all wine shipments into and out of the winery are handled efficiently and in a quality manner.
- Ensures all barrel movements are promptly and accurately scanned and input into BIMS.
- Works with Maintenance Department to ensure all winery deficiencies are reported and repaired in a timely manner.
- Manages cellar budget as delegated by Winemaker, running monthly overtime report and participating in monthly finance business unit review.
- Maintain supplies and equipment inventories necessary for operations
- Will oversee and lead cellar to ensure work orders are filled out correctly and turned into data entry department in a timely manner for input to BIMS system.
- Understands regulatory and compliance issues, permits; has knowledge and ability to work with vendors on various projects.
- Leads, coordinates special cellar projects such as expansion, equipment installations.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by Winemaking staff.
Requirements:
Five to ten years of previous experience working in a winery/cellar environment with three years direct supervisory experience. Leadership and decision-making capabilities necessary. Must possess a complete understanding of all cellar operations including but not limited to crushing of red and white varietal grapes, fermentation, racking, filtering, barrels, finings, additions, and bottling. Excellent communication and organizational skills, extensive barrel and forklift experience required. Should possess computer skills with the ability to utilize data base systems, Word, and Excel. Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs. on a repetitive basis, work standing up and walk on concrete surfaces for extended periods of time. Must be able to work any shift and overtime as needed, particularly during the harvest season.

Wage Transparency:
The annual salary for this role ranges from $80,000 – $95,000. Compensation will be determined by candidate experience, skills, and location.
