Established in 2002, the Thousand Islands Winery® has established itself as a regional landmark in the Thousand Islands region of New York. Thousand Islands Winery is the largest wine producer in the Thousand Islands and is located in Alexandria Bay, NY. It is a premium wine making facility with production, farming, and wine distribution operations. In 2009, it was named as New York’s “Winery of the Year” by the New York Wine and Grape Foundation.

The Thousand Islands Winery® has an immediate opening for a Tasting Room Attendant, to sell wine, educate the public about our products (both wine and non-wine), and provide a fun and warm experience for our customers.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

Learn to accurately describe wines, winemaking techniques, Winery history, and unique aspects of wines.
Master the Winery tour script and provide guests a Winery tour Greets all visitors to the Tasting Room.
Educate and provide customers a positive wine tasting experience.
Effectively promote and sell wine and wine club memberships to guests.
Handle routine POS functions including processing transactions, returns, discounts, and accounting of daily sales.
Assist Tasting Room Managers in ensuring that all wine and merchandise is always stocked and displayed in an organized, clean, and inviting manner.
Takes the initiative for self-development in the areas of wine, the TIW brand, general hospitality and effective sales techniques.
Facilitates shipping of wine to customers and meets all compliance and regulatory requirements of wine shipments.
Participates and assists with special hospitality events occurring at the Winery.
Answer the phones and assist customers or take orders as required.
Perform daily Tasting Room cleaning duties.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Tasting Room Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

Proven ability to effectively and appropriately communicate with diverse customers.
Possess professional appearance and demeanor.
Be able to manage constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
Positive attitude and comfortable in working with large and small groups of guests.
Strong computer proficiency and data entry experience.
Basic to intermediate knowledge of Word and Excel preferred.
Previous experience with a POS system.
One to two years related experience.
Must be able to work weekends and allow for a flexible schedule.
Ability to lift and move 40 pounds repeatedly.
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
Ability to effectively complete set-up and break down procedures, equipment.
Able to utilize dolly cart when moving heavy objects.
Ability to understand and accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to pass a drug screening.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Valid NYS driver license.

Pay: $16.50 - $17.25 per hour
