Saudé Creek Vineyards is a family-owned winery that makes every guest feel like they too are a part of the family. Situated on the top of a hill with views of the Pamunkey River, Saudé Creek Vineyards has over 100 acres in property with ample space for guests to sit back and enjoy a bottle. With a small staff of 20, Saudé Creek is looking for the ideal team member whose energy will help the winery continue to grow.
The Vineyard Manager will oversee the daily operations of the vineyard, related to the management of the vines, harvest, and application of chemicals, ensuring the highest quality of grape production, management of the vineyard team, and assisting the winemaker in production of wine. The Vineyard Manager’s expertise will guide our team in cultivating exceptional wines that reflect the unique terroir of our land.
Principle Role, Duties and Responsibilities:
- Vineyard Operations: Manage all aspects of vineyard operations, including planting, pruning, harvesting, and pest control, to ensure optimal grape growth and quality.
- Team Leadership: Supervise vineyard staff, providing training, direction, and support to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Irrigation and Soil Management: Monitor and maintain irrigation systems and soil health, implementing practices that promote sustainability and enhance grape quality.
- Crop Monitoring: Regularly assess vine health, yield, and grape maturity to make informed decisions regarding vineyard management and harvest timing.
- Quality Control: Collaborate with winemaker to align vineyard practices with wine production goals, ensuring that grapes meet quality standards for wine making.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of vineyard activities, including pest management, irrigation schedules, and harvest yields, for analysis and reporting.
- Budget Management: Assist in managing the vineyard budget, monitoring expenses, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Compliance: Ensure all vineyard operations comply with local regulations and sustainable farming practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Viticulture, Horticulture, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Proven experience in vineyard management or a related agricultural role.
- Strong knowledge of viticulture practices, pest management, and soil health.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- A valid driver’s license is required with clean DMV record
- Must be able to lift 55 lbs consistently and must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time (8+ hours)
