Scheid Family Wines has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Mechanic I to join our team at our Greenfield, CA winery location.
SUMMARY: The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and improving mechanical and electrical systems throughout winery, bottling, and facility operations. Supports safe, reliable, and efficient equipment performance through preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and use of the Company’s CMMS to manage work orders and maintenance records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Follow all company policies, safety rules, GMPs, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, and fall protection requirements.
· Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, installations, and modifications on production and facility equipment.
· Respond to equipment breakdowns and minimize downtime to support production goals.
· Inspect and maintain equipment including pumps, compressors, refrigeration systems, boilers, chillers, presses, crushers, filters, fillers, labelers, palletizers, and related systems.
· Use proper lubricants, replacement parts, and maintenance procedures.
· Safely work in confined spaces and operate boom lifts, scissor lifts, and other aerial platforms when required.
· Test equipment following maintenance activities to verify proper operation and communicate status to affected personnel.
· Utilize the CMMS to complete work orders, document repairs, record parts usage, and maintain equipment history.
· Interpret equipment manuals, electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and technical documentation.
· Collaborate with mechanics, operators, supervisors, and managers to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Minimum of 7 years of on-the-job maintenance experience
· Experience in manufacturing, food processing, winery, or bottling environments preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS
· Food-grade stainless steel welding.
· Mechanical drive systems, gearboxes, chains, bearings, and power transmission components.
· Electrical troubleshooting up to 480V using a multimeter.
· Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) programming and troubleshooting.
· Ammonia refrigeration, air compressors, and basic plumbing systems.
· Proficient use of hand and power tools.
· CMMS and mobile device proficiency for work order management and maintenance documentation.
· Ability to work safely at elevations and in confined spaces.
· Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with coworkers.
· Must provide an adequate personal hand tool set.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK SCHEDULE
Requires standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Position may require work at elevated heights, in confined spaces, and during overtime, weekend, evening, or night shifts as business needs dictate.
