Part-Time / Full Time | $15/hour + Tips | Weekdays / Weekends
We are seeking part time/full time Tasting Room Associates at Sakonnet Vineyard, New England’s oldest vineyard, located in Little Compton, RI. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the wine industry and/or beverage/food industry and possess excellent communication skills.
The candidate will assist guests through wine tastings and pouring wine, ensuring all needs and expectations are met, answering questions and providing in-depth information about our wines and the estate.
The candidate should be well spoken, polished, and demonstrate warmth and grace with team members and guests. He/she is hard-working and a self-starter taking ownership for their responsibilities, and understanding the overall mission, values and structure of Sakonnet Vineyard.
Responsibilities:
- Greet all guests to the Vineyard and pour wines for tasting.
- Execute all opening and closing procedures, in accordance with company policy.
- Take orders, prepare, and serve glasses/tasting flights to guests as needed.
- Describe wines and winery history; answer visitors’ questions about wines.
- Create a memorable experience for our guests.
- Handle routine sales transactions which include operating a cash register and accounting of daily sales.
- Assist with display and stocking of retail items and wines.
- Assist in maintaining cleanliness of facilities.
- Assist with hospitality special events as needed.
- Represent the winery at outside functions as needed.
- Perform other tasks as needed.
Qualifications/Skills:
- Previous experience in a wine tasting room setting preferred; Alternatively, experience in hospitality, retail, or food/beverage setting.
- Interest, passion and knowledge in wine and the wine industry.
- Self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to remain calm and focused under pressure and respond professionally and effectively to all situations.
- Positive and outgoing personality in order to ensure the highest level of guest service.
- Ability to speak comfortably and audibly in front of groups.
- Proficiency in POS systems and basic computer skills required.
- Strong written/verbal communication and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Solid organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment during the peak tourism season.
- Availability to work both weekdays and weekends (Wednesday through Monday) with a minimum of two days a week in the season is a must.
- Must be able to be on feet for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs.
